The first minted coin, about 2600 years ago, allowed to buy 10 goats. And the currency was not always circular: there was once square coins, star-shaped, with holes, porcelain and wooden coins. The Chinese, for example, have used pressed tea bricks as currency. The book Heads or Tails? Little History of the Currency, written by Ricardo Henriques, illustrated by Nicolau and designed by Pato Lógico, tells the history of the currency throughout the ages, in Portugal and worldwide.
This book is part of a collection dedicated to commemorative coins, published by The Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office, which aims to make the younger readers familiar with numismatics, through books on history, geography, science and nature.
